    Meet the Author – Teemu Taira

    In this instalment of our Meet the Author series, Teemu Taira discusses his recent edited book, Atheism in Five Minutes (Equinox, 2022).

    Teemu Taira is Senior Lecturer in the Study of Religion at the University of Helsinki. His work focuses on public discourses on religion and atheism (media discourses, in particular), and methodology in the study of religion. He is the author of Taking “Religion” Seriously: Essays on the Discursive Study of Religion (Brill, 2022), editor of Atheism in Five Minutes (Equinox, 2022), and coauthor of Media Portrayals of Religion and the Secular Sacred (Ashgate, now Routledge, 2013). He has edited a special issue on the new visibility of atheism in Europe (Approaching Religion, 2012) and written multiple articles and chapters on New Atheism, atheism in the media, and atheism and nonreligion in Finland. He has contributed to several handbooks on the topics of atheism, secularism, and nonreligion (The Cambridge History of Atheism, Handbook of Leaving Religion, The Oxford Handbook of Digital Religion, and Handbook of Language and Politics). He is also the author of four Finnish-language monographs, one of them focusing on the new visibility of atheism.
